While most projects are accomplished using the traditional design-bid-build approach, there are instances where schedules demand a more streamlined method.  In many cases, this leads to the "turn key" approach, also known as "Design-Build" or "EPC" (Engineer-Procure-Construct).

On Design-Build projects, the engineer and the contractor will join forces to both design and implement the solution.

Many times the engineer will take the lead role on the project and serve as the prime contractor, handling all of the project's costs on behalf of the client.  To pull it off, you need a capable leader, manager and organizer, all in one tidy package.
